American Roulette
When
you play roulette at an online or land casino, the casino will usually
offer either 'American Roulette' or european
roulette. The difference between the two versions lies in the roulette
wheel layout itself. European roulette has thirty-seven numbered slots
including one for the number zero, while the American roulette wheel has
thirty-eight numbered slots including two for the number zero (0 and 00).
The numbers on the American roulette wheel are 1 to 36, 0, and 00. The
numbers alternate pairs of odd numbers with pairs of even numbers. The
American roulette wheel numbers also alternate between black and red.
Both the 0 and 00 slots are green in color.
The American roulette table is designed so that the numbers, not including
0 and 00, are lined up into three columns, each of twelve numbers, the
first row is 1,2,3; the second row is 4,5,6 and so on. The rest of the
table is devoted to the myriad bets the game entails.
Roulette played on an American roulette wheel is not a terribly exciting
proposition, simply because the house advantage for a standard 38-number
American wheel is 5.26%. That's almost twice as high as the standard house
edge for European roulette (2.7%). Yes, the additional zero does make
a big difference in your odds so if you can find it we'd definitely recommend
that you play European instead of American roulette.
